National Day Organizing Committee of Micoud: week of celebrations. National Day Cycling 13th December: National Day Cycling. Includes BMX and mountain bike races. Book signing by Sir Clyde Walcott Tuesday 14th December, 10:30 am- 12.30 pm: book signing by Sir Clyde Walcott, Barbadian batsman, of his new book 'Sixty Years on the Back Foot'. Wednesday 15th December: Talent show scouting organised by Phive Staar Fleet Entertainment and Big Mouth Productions. Venue: C2 Sports Bar, 8:00 pm. Winners get a chance to sign up with Big Mouth Productions.
Thursday 16th December: Christmas Magic with US magician Mark Clark. Encounter the World of Magic, Mystery and Make Believe. Venue: National Cultural Center, from 6:00 pm. Also provides a chance to pose with Santa Claus and to have your face painted. Admittance to the show $15 adults, $10 children. Tickets sold at Sunshine Bookshop, Celebrations (Peynier St.), Mags Unisex Hairshoppe and Tapion School. Part of the proceeds will go to Des Barras Combined School.
Friday 17th - Wednesday 22nd December: six nights of Labfest, the Laborie Festival of Culture. Featuring the Vieux Fort Secondary School Concert Band, Mahurney Augier, Monty Maxwell, Wevolousyon, Ives Simeon, drumming and poetry sessions and performances by four of the leading southern choirs. Saturday 18th December: Atlantic Rally for Cruisers prize-giving ceremony. During the week: number of social events at the ARC village and other night spots in Rodney Bay area, including Shamrocks, Three Amigos, St. Lucia Yacht Club, Spinnakers and The Bistro.
December 1999, and again in January 2000: Pappyshow Park 2000 - long-awaited political satire by members of The Factory.
Wednesday 22nd December, 7:00 pm, Our Lady of Fatima Church, La Clery: An evening of Carols. Christmas renditions by St. Lucia's leading choirs.
24th December: Christmas Eve - Christmas Carols at Waves Restaurant. 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm.
Consular section of the US Embassy in Barbados suspends Immigrant Visa services from 22nd December 1999 until 17th January 2000. Also suspends Non-Immigrant (visitor) visa services on 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31st of December and on 3 and 4th of January 2000. Consulate remains open for American citizens throughout the Y2K period as usual.
31st December, New Year's Eve: Millennium Carnival Celebration at Wyndham Morgan Bay. 21st-23rd January 2000: Seventh annual Regatta, organised by St. Lucia Sailing Club.
6 February 2000: Ste Lisi Par Excellence Awards ceremony at National Cultural Centre.
Wednesday 9th February: benefit piano recital by Vladimir Ashkenazy. With music by Schumann, Rachmaninov and Rave. Organised by the School of Music.
Saturday 19th February, 2000: Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Fundraiser Ball. Bringing together South Florida Caribbean community, CTO Allied Members, government officials, chapter members and friends at the Hyatt Hotel in downtown Miami. Featuring music from the Caribbean, delicious cuisine and a raffle/silent auction with a variety of items including Caribbean hotel stays and airfare, jewelry and Caribbean artwork.

Year 2000 essay competition for students aged 15-18. Organised by Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. $15,000 in prizes for schools and individual participants. Topic: "Even as they seek enforcement of the WTO ruling which could adversely affect the region's banana industry, the US is actively courting our assistance in their fight against drug trafficking and money laundering. What do you think our position should be?" Deadline for submission: 12th May, 2000.
Carifesta II, the seventh Caribbean Festival of Arts, in August 2000 will be held in St. Kitts & Nevis. All countries "washed by the Caribbean Sea" are invited to participate. Sponsored by UNESCO. |
