Technician and Computer Lab Assistant at School of Continuing Studies

    Technician and Computer Lab Assistant wanted at the Distance Education Centre of the University of the West Indies in Castries, St. Lucia.
    The appointment will be on a contractual basis initially for three years.
    1. Education: The successful candidate should have a Diploma or Certificate in Electronics or Computing or have equivalent experience and/or training.
    2. Work experience: Preferably one year working with maintenance of audio and visual transmission systems and any computer based or electronic system. The successful candidate must have a strong working knowledge of IBM compatible software packages such as database, wordprocessor and spreadsheet programmes.
    3. Skills/capabilities:
    * Very strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    * Management of audio and video transmission systems.

    5. Duties:
    Technician:
    * Supervise the use of all electronic equipment at the DEC Site, including the computer laboratory.
    * Maintain and calibrate DEC's equipment.
    * Receive, test and install all equipment shipped to the local site from, or on behalf of the DEC.
    * Conduct minor repairs on malfunctioning/non-functioning for end-user equipment.
    * Provide instructional support for system users.
    * Be available on Saturdays as on other weekdays to monitor scheduled teleconferencing sessions.
    * Maintain inventory of all DEC equipment at the site and provide the DEC's Telecommunications Network Manager with this information on a timely basis or as and when requested.
    * Respond to the University Centre in the case of technical emergency with the Teleconferencing Network.
    Lab Assistant:
    * Maintain and administer all computer-assisted instructional packages and applications software.
