Agricultural Economist/Marketing Specialist at CAFP
The Caribbean Agriculture & Fisheries Programme (CAFP) came into being with the establishment of the Programme Management and Coordination Unit (PMCU) in Port of Spain in April 1998. The CAFP is a Euro 22m regional programme designed to promote development in the Caribbean agriculture and fisheries sectors, with particular emphasis on private sector initiatives. The CAFP is funded by the European Commission, will run up to April 2004, and covers the 15 member countries of CARIFORUM. Under the direction of the Programme Manager, the Agricultural Economist/ Marketing Specialist will carry out the following tasks: * Participate in the appraisal and development of projects submitted to the CARIFORUM Agribusiness Research and Training Fund (CARTF); * Participate in the Programme's activities in relation to marketing, organisational/management and economic development issues; * Contribute to the Programme's work in relation to marketing, trade and credit; * Support and participate generally in the work of the PMCU. The candidate must possess: * A first degree and ideally a postgraduate qualification, in one or more of the following fields: Agricultural Economics, Business, Project Planning or Marketing; * Experience in a project preparation, appraisal, finance and implementation; * A full understanding of the agribusiness sector in the Caribbean, ideally gained working in the private sector. Applications are invited from suitably qualified nationals of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Member States to fill the vacant positions of Project Officer, Single Market and Economy. Functions of the post: Under the general direction of the Deputy Programme Manager, the Project Officer shall be responsible for the coordination of Projects, and monitoring the results of such projects which are designed to achieve implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). Projects would span the range of measures to be taken at the National and Regional Levels to achieve free movement of goods, services, capital and persons. Qualifications and Experience: A Bachelor's degree in Economics, International Trade or Management. Previous experience in Project preparation, implementation and monitoring would be a distinct advantage. Computer literacy would be an asset.
