This is a well-built, practically designed, 3-bedroom/2-bathroom family home in the established upper-middle class residential area of Cedar Heights, close to Vieux Fort in the south of St Lucia.
At just under 2,000 sq. ft, the house sits on 5,219 sq. ft of land and is the perfect home for a family, but would also be a fine choice of home for retirement from a colder climate. Alternatively, it could be used as an investment property and rented out as short-term holiday home, or long-term to any one of the staff or students of the international medical schools located in and around Vieux Fort. Its location is central to shops, town, the hospital, the international airport, and of course beaches - several of which are just a few minutes' drive away. From the balcony, there are lovely views of the Caribbean Sea, about a mile away as the crow flies, as well as inland across the plains of Vieux Fort and out to the hills of the south-western interior of St Lucia.
The land slopes gently, and the house is built on a split level. A sliding wrought-iron gate on castors and a concrete driveway lead to a one-car garage and storage area at the bottom of the house. The front garden boasts a lawn and fruit-bearing mango tree, as well as some flowering plants - all of which enhance the friendly character of the property. Surrounding the home is a decorative 7-foot masonary wall. On either side of the house are vacant lots but there are established residences to the front and back and all along the road. A painted staircase leads to the main balcony of the house, which enjoys a calming sea view and cooling breezes. The house is built entirely of steel-reinforced concrete with a standing-seam clad metal roof, making it hurricane and earthquake proof and fire resistant. It is wired for both 110 and 220 volts, and there are mosquito nets and burglar bars on all of the windows. The house is fitted neatly throughout with matching ceramic tiles.
On entering the house, a most striking feature is the height of the ceiling, which is pickled white and gives a great sense of air and spaciousness. Off to the left are a large kitchen and dining area, with a separate laundry room and an exterior door to the side of the house. The kitchen is tastefully fitted with mahogany cupboards, tiled countertops and a double sink.
To the right of the entrance is a spacious living area with windows looking out to the south and west.
The central hallway rises four steps up into the private area of the house, which comprises a master bedroom with ensuite bathroom, and two regular-sized bedrooms with a shared bathroom. All bedrooms are air-conditioned, and the master bedroom also has a private balcony at the rear. The master bathroom is particularly well-appointed with a walk-through closet, toilet, bidet, shower stall, porcelain bath tub and face basin set in a large vanity area. The master bedroom itself also has a large built-in closet.
The two regular-sized bedrooms both also have air-conditioning and large, sliding door closets. A solar system on the roof provides the house with hot water and there are two back-up water tanks plumbed into the house with an electric water pump, so there is an uninterrupted supply of water at all times.
